RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., May 2, 2005—Advanced Animal Diagnostics (AAD) announced today that Charles F. Galanaugh has been elected to serve as the Chairman of the Board of Directors. Mr. Galanaugh commented as follows: "AAD has recently graduated from the BD BioVentures Incubator to new facilities and plans to commercialize its first product, which could revolutionize dairy practices. I am pleased to join such an experienced management team as we utilize exciting, proprietary technology to help solve the problem of mastitis which costs the US dairy industry, alone, more than $ 2 Billion, annually. Dairy producers and processors need new tools to diagnose mastitis in order to manage the health and productivity of their herds. AAD’s rapid, portable, easy-to-use system will enable testing to be done at cow-side. It will provide information not previously available to help to resolve the most significant infectious disease problem in the worldwide dairy industry. The business opportunity is significant and there are no regulatory or third-party payer constraints."
After several years as an aerospace engineer and with degrees in engineering and business, Mr. Galanaugh has over 30 years in managerial roles, designing, developing, launching and marketing several successful diagnostic products. In addition, in his many years at BD, he managed large direct sales forces, served as a Division President and utilized his expertise in corporate strategy, technology value assessment and business development. Currently, at Galanaugh Associates, he advises small life-science technology companies in subjects related to his managerial skills.
Mr. Galanaugh is well known in the clinical laboratory having served as President of NCCLS (now CLSI - Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute) and currently serving as a Trustees of the Van Slyke Foundation, a not-for-profit activity of the American Association for Clinical Chemistry.
Advanced Animal Diagnostics was founded in 2001, and its mission is to engage in the research, development, and commercialization of integrated systems and solutions for the diagnosis and treatment of veterinary health problems including mastitis and other large-animal diseases.
